New and growing online community for parents of teenagers

Our mission at Whatever Together is to connect parents who are finding things challenging with their teenagers so that they can find the support and resilience to keep going through tough times.

Parents of teenagers often feel alone in facing some really tough challenges. It can be difficult to talk to friends and family – perhaps from fear of being judged, or because they have no experience of the tough times our teens are going through. Whatever Together allows parents to come together anonymously to share the stress and worries of parenting with someone who really gets it.

We are looking for an experienced Community Manager to help us grow our small community, working with us to achieve our big ambitions. We’re looking for a freelance Community Manager who can dedicate a day a week to us, with the hours spread across the week. Daily rate depending on level of experience. Do you have exceptional written communication skills that mean you’re able to effectively engage members in online conversations and build relationships?


Our community is still in its early stages (we launched in July 2020) so the main responsibility of the Community Manager is to encourage more active participation from members. We’re using Discourse as our community platform and the following areas are our focus right now:

Moderation – daily moderation tasks to initiate discussions and encourage participation – including generation of topic ideas, liking and responding to posts, tagging members, thanking members Growth – implementing our onboarding processes that encourage new members to participate and encourage further engagement of members as they become more active in the community Relationship building – building relationships with our core group of highly active members and building relationships with other members to encourage more active and committed involvement

As our community grows, the activity and tasks of the Community Manager will evolve and develop further.


You must have experience as a community manager (managing online forums, not a social media manager). It would be highly desirable if you had previous experience of growing an online forum from a small base. You must have excellent written English interpersonal communication skills with a warm tone of voice You must have a non-judgmental, sympathetic approach to parents experiencing problems with their teenager You must have flexibility to offer us hours spread across the week Attention to detail and ability to multitask You must be set up for freelance working and be able to invoice us monthly
