SPORTS FACILITY & FIELD SUPERVISOR (PART-TIME)Town of ChristiansburgParks and Recreation DepartmentCode 611JOB SUMMARYThe Sports Facility & Field Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision of the Athletic Facilities including supervision of activities within the facilities and enforcing the rules, regulations and policies of the Christiansburg Department of Parks and Recreation and the Town of Christiansburg. The Field Supervisor works directly with the Supervisor of Outside Sports Facilities and Parks, the Assistant Director and Director of Parks and Recreation.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS• Supervises the Athletic Facilities and the people using the facility• Assist with special events and other programs in the facility• Ensures and assists in maintaining a clean and safe facility• Maintains a professional and courteous attitude and provides excellent customer service when dealing with the public, Town officials and department staff members• Other duties as required/assigned by supervisorsTOOLS AND EQUIPMENT• Automobile, pick-up truck and van, if needed• Computer• Various athletic equipment• Field maintenance equipmentJOB CONTEXTThe Sports Facility & Field Supervisor spends approximately 100% of their time working outside at various Town Athletic Facilities,primarily nights and weekends. Stress is low to moderate. Will perform tasks that require the ability to exert light to moderate, though not constant physical effort involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of light to moderate weight (5-20 pounds). Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, heights, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, wildlife, or rude/irate customers.WORK PERFORMANCEThe employee is required to follow departmental expectations and adhere to all rules, regulations, policies and procedures in the Town of Christiansburg Personnel Handbook. Work performance is reviewed utilizing the Town’s employee performance review program following first 6 month introductory period. During this introductory period, the Parks Maintenance for Parks and Recreation must demonstrate a strong understanding of all that the job requires.JOB REQUIREMENTSEducation and experience• High School Diploma or GED equivalent; supplemented by knowledge of community recreation and sports programs; public relations experience preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.Licenses and Certification• Valid, Virginia driver’s license with the ability to meet/maintain Town insurability requirements and a minimum of two (2) years driving experienceKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESKnowledge:Upon Hire• Various knowledge of community recreation and sports programsSkills and Abilities:Upon Hire• Excellent oral and written communication skills• Must be able to supervise community and sport activities• Must be able to direct, lead and motivate people• Must be able to comply with, interpret and convey Town of Christiansburg and Department policies• Able to physically move around and inspect programs and class sites• Perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength• Perform duties independent of instruction• Ability to operate and control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools and/or materials requiring complex and/or rapid adjustments• Ability to exchange information for the purpose of clarifying details within well-established policies, procedures and standards• Basic math skills with the ability to add/subtract/multiply/divide; calculate decimals and percentages; utilize the principles of fractions and interpret graphs• Ability to determine, calculate tabulate, or summarize data/information, including performing subsequent actions in relation to these computational operations• Ability to carry out instruction furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form; involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action• Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information• Ability to exchange information for the purpose of clarifying details within well -established policies, procedures, and standards• Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria• Ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals; some tasks require the ability to communicate orallySAFETYThe employee shall adhere to Town of Christiansburg policies regarding safety precautions and the use of safety equipment that is necessary for the health and safety of all employees and citizens.
