Small Equipment Operators are responsible for operating equipment including, but not limited to, paper balers, front-end loaders, bobcats, and forklifts to transport or bind paper or loose materials to facilitate handling as well as load or unload materials into trailers or/and railcars. Equipment Operators are exposed to unpleasant odors and sights and weather elements. The hours and physical demand may vary by location.
RESPONSIBILITIES:Operates equipment in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies. Performs safe driving practices while transporting, loading, and unloading loose or baled materials. Safely stacks baled material in a manner which does not endanger personnel, equipment or materials. Organizes and secures the stored materials in accordance with policy. Conducts pre-trip/post trip inspections on equipment and complete necessary forms. Performs routine maintenance on equipment, (ie. lubricating, fueling and cleaning equipment). Monitors recycling for signs of unacceptable material. Weighs, tags, logs, and prepares baled materials for transport. Professional interaction with internal and external customers. Cleans waste from equipment body and wheels throughout the day. Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:Ability to perform physical requirements of the job (prolonged physical exertions, including sitting, standing, reaching, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing). Also, ability to withstand “bumpy” ride on equipment. Previous experience operating equipment preferred. Ability to maneuver equipment through tight areas and high equipment and pedestrian traffic. Ability to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays. Ability to work in plant conditions with exposure to weather elements. Good verbal communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers. Must pass a written and operational test to be licensed to operate forklift and bobcat. Recycling industry experience, a plus. Additional skills may be required to perform additional task(s) specific to work location, department or line of business.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Legally eligible to work in the United States. Must successfully complete pre-employment testing. Must be able to read and speak the English language well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, traffic signs, signals, and safety training.
WORKING CONDITIONSExposure to extreme weather conditions. Exposure to dust, noise, heat, cold and fumes found in a plant environment. Exposure to residential and commercial waste and recycling. Exposure to high pedestrian and equipment traffic.
